Why So Many K-Pop Idols and Celebrities Consult Saju

From variety shows to famous saju cafés in Seoul, checking a birth chart before a big decision is a normal, unremarkable part of Korean celebrity culture. Here's what that actually looks like.

It's Not a Secret — It's Just Not Discussed Abroad

Ask anyone in the Korean entertainment industry whether saju readings are common, and you won't get a scandalous answer. You'll get a shrug. Consulting a saju practitioner before a debut, a comeback, a contract renewal, or even a haircut is treated the way checking a weather forecast is treated elsewhere: practical, low-drama, and unremarkable.

That's very different from how it's usually framed in coverage outside Korea, where a celebrity "believing in fortune telling" gets treated as a curiosity or even a flaw. Inside Korea, it's closer to due diligence.

The Saju Café Culture

Seoul has a well-known cluster of saju cafés — cafés that combine a coffee menu with an in-house saju reading, often in trendy neighborhoods like Hongdae. Several of these have built reputations partly through reported visits from well-known names, with idols including Rain, Apink members, and comedian Haha named among past visitors in Korean media coverage of these spots. Members of NCT, including Johnny and Doyoung, have also been named in similar coverage.

Worth being precise about

Most of these mentions come from café features and general entertainment coverage, not from the artists' own direct statements about what was discussed in a reading. Treat this as evidence that visiting a saju café is a normal, photographed activity in Korean celebrity life — not as confirmation of any specific reading's content.

Newer groups get pulled into the same pattern quickly. Zerobaseone, for instance, had a saju reading filmed as content, which is itself a sign of how mainstream and non-taboo the format has become — a reading isn't hidden, it's sometimes the content.

What Idols Actually Ask About

The pattern that comes up repeatedly across variety shows and interviews isn't dramatic — it's practical. Common questions include:

None of this requires believing saju predicts the future with certainty. It functions closer to a structured way of thinking through timing and compatibility — the same reason some Western executives consult personality frameworks before forming a team, just with a different underlying system.

Why This Matters If You're New to Saju

The point isn't that a celebrity endorsement makes Saju "true." It's that inside the culture that produced this system, it's treated as a normal decision-support tool — not a novelty act reserved for tourists or true believers. That context is useful if you're encountering Saju for the first time through K-pop or K-drama and wondering whether it's meant to be taken seriously or as pure entertainment. The honest answer is: both, depending on who's asking and why.
